I believe that would be a picture of the top of a giant clam from the family Tridacnidae.

Who idea was it to have so many entries? In order to pick out just one is not a easy task out from 52 entries. This took me a while for first I had to pick my top ten, and then pick the one I think should be our first POTM winner. I do however have a question, where are all the marine tank here at AC? For I think that I counted only eight images to do with marine tanks.
Well, I nailed it down some to 3 and now I made my pick, and thanks Niko for making it so difficult, LMBO But I thought that the staff was to select the top ten or so? Not simply paste every entry that you get for the next months there could be more then a 100. :rant2: I hate decisions such as these :duh:

thanks for the comments Buddy...Yes, i hope there is more marine pictures submitted for May...It is best for the entire community to vote out of all the entries submitted..So, everyone can see what people have sent in and make their OWN opinion on what should be POTM....Its the fairest way..

Its the fairest way..
Mirror, Mirror on the wall, which picture is the fairest of them all. If only I could borrow the mirror from snow white, the task could be so much easier. I do however agree for even that it would simplify the voting, it would be however unfair for those who were left out>
And for right now, its looking as if its a runaway for the clown fish>

I might be more of a picture-person than most, but I would be interested to also see information about what camera and equipment was used to take each photograph. Might be too much, but its just a thought.

My choice was number 9. I loved the rich blend of red and violet tones and the visual textures in the photo. It has a great mood and energy about it and looks professional and very artistic!!
2nd Choice was number 44. Again, I love the colors. It looks crisp and good enough to be in National Geographic... or at least Fish Fancy. ;) A very fun and funky looking fish photo. Psychedelic!! :cool2:
Third place for me was no. 23. I loved the personality that comes out at you in this picture. It really portrays a cutsie side... that fish aren't just something that bobs and floats and does nothing interesting. Shame it's cloudy.

Current situation, as we start so far...
1) two furlongs ahead is number 9
2) turning into middle straight is number 54
3) coming round the back bend is number 52
Number 52 keeps glancing over the shoulder as number 44 is starting to push on.....

It might be a good idea for that information to be included in the thread that will be used for listing each months winner. As months go by it could end up being quite informative.

Fantastic photos! It was hard to pic just one! I voted for 44 - very clean photo. #9 was awesome nonetheless - it came down to that and the other 53!
I imagine this has been suggested and if it has I apologize in advance.
How about 2 polls one FW and the other SW. Not trying to seperate and build division but it would make sense to me. Quite possibly adding a coral/invert poll as well. Choosing would be easier since each group would coincide with their species and maybe instead of 54 to choose from you'd have 30 or so. Just a thought.

Yeah, i do appreciate what you are saying and form a certain point of view it is a valid point and well presented. However, the whole idea behind Picture of the month, is just that...a picture, a moment in time snapped...All though i am a marine aquarist, i would look at all pictures for the same points that make one stand out from the other..
