I am experiencing probs. with my soft corals not coming out and have two questions (1) Are halide lights too powerful for soft corals and if not what is the optimum height for pendants.
secondly if water is ok have plenty of movement what is causing problems

You might want to provide more info like tank temperature, ph, nitrates/calcium/phosphates/whatever specs you have. ;)

yes all that info would help very much.
i have plenty of coral under my halide and they are very close to it and do wonderfully. depending on heat transfer halides pendent can be anywhere form 3 inches to 8 sometimes even 12 inches above the tank.

temperature 78 degrees ph1022 dont know calcium all other readings 0

why soft coral won't bloom:
-Water quality (Ph, Salinity, 3 nitrogenouse waste, ect.)
-Lack of suppliments (mainly iodine for soft corals)
-To much flow (they will still come out under low flow but they wont be happy)
-Stress (handling, pestering by hitchhikers, ect)

To much light causes the coral to brown, and release the photosynthetic algae and slowly die if there is no food
