I have two adult pink convits (male and female) and there is one set of babies (14) that are almost and inch as well as wigglers. I have just moved the babies to a another tank untill the wigglers get swimming. I was wondering if there was another type or types of convicts that I can add to the tank. Right now I just have a 10 gallon but I am looking into getting a much larger tank. I would like to add fish that have some color. But the local pets stores do not know. As well I would like to add a plecto or catfish I think it is but not sure if it is a good idea with the little fish being in the tank.

I'm confused- what size tanks? Are you looking for tank mates for the breeding pair?

From what I've read and seen in my Firemouths, adding anything at all to a 10 gallon with a breeding pair of Convicts would be a death sentence for the added fish. If moving to a bigger tank, how much bigger are we talking about? If you went to something bigger than 30 gallons you could add another smallish cichlid like a Firemouth that would be able to stand up to the Convicts, and ideally a pair of them. I think you could do a pair of Firemouths and a pair of Convicts in a 40 gallon and that would give both pairs room to claim some territory. Others might think that is still a little crowded, but you've obviously got a handle on maintenance if you've grown Convict fry with the parents out to 1" in a 10 gallon.
