Sorry for the long title but I don't want to start a bunch of threads to get all my different questions answered.

First, can anyone help me ID this fish? I think this is the only fish I don't know in the tank now.

Second, I have what looks like spiderwebs shooting from the coral in the tank. What is that?

Third, I was out of town on business for almost a week after getting the tank and when I came back, my husband pointed out we had some type of hairy looking crab in there. Then I read somewhere today, on one of the links I followed from here, that they're almost all bad and shouldn't be kept in the tank? He seems to hide mostly under the rock and he comes out at feeding time and sifts through the sand to find the food. Is this bad?

Fourth, I want to add some shrimp, suggestions? I don't have anything for clean up crew in the tank right now except a very few hermit crabs and possibly the above mentioned crab. I also have a goby and a sea cucumber, as well as a serpent starfish, but I don't know if those are considered cleanup crew or not. I was thinking to add some more hermit crabs and a couple shrimp, maybe. Or...something. I'm so new at this, advice is welcome!

Oh, and because my sig line isn't up yet, here's my set up: 75 gallon, with reef/coral, tang, goby, clownfish, 2 damsels, one un-id'd fish, serpent starfish, sea cucumber, three anemones and...stuff (coral, polyps, etc) Pictures of the tank can be found in this thread. 1) just looks like a large blue damsel to me but might be some sort of chromis.
2) what kind of coral? does it look like roots over the LR or more like a cobweb going from the coral stalk to the rock?
3) i think, THINK, that hairy crabs are bad
4) cleaner shrimp are always good, fire shrimp, peppermint, camel, candycane, sexy shrimp are my favorite, anemone shrimp. you could also do an emerald crab or boxer. do you have any stars in the tank?

ps. how the hell did you keep the water good enough for coral with no clean up crew? :D

That's a link to a large picture of where the "webs" are coming off of. I've circled some. In the middle, I've drawn a few arrows. There's a web across the rocks there.

I'm not sure how the water/coral has been kept up with such a small clean up crew. I only acquired the tank a few weeks ago and I'm still learning about it. I wouldn't even know if I had something bad on the rocks at this point, which scares me!

About how many shrimp would I need and can I do a variety of two or three different, or should I stick with one? As for stars in the tank, I have the serpent starfish, is that what you mean?

If the hairy crab IS bad, can someone explain why? And would it be okay to just move him to the refugium underneath?

The webs are probably coming from vermetid snails. They send out little mucus lines to catch debris, then reel them in for lunch. They're good guys.

Oooh, so I looked up vermetid snails and it seems they emit a mucus strand for catching food. So that's what I'm seeing? How fascinating.

Hi there. I'm trying to figure out fish ID! I was first thinking a damsel as well before I saw your other pictures from your other thread. Now I'm thinking it could be some sort of Angel, because of the body shape, size, stripes and face.

I'm not sure at all but I reversed your picture and put it next to another angelfish and obviously they're different but I'm leaning toward some sort of Angel at this point. Hmmm...

Here are some striped damsels that tend to get large so it could be one of them too.

It's really hard to tell.
In the picture it looks blue- is that accurate? Are you able to call the former owners to ask them?

The hairy crab- do you have a picture? Does it look like this?

Just trying to help...I would want to know too! :)

The following is a copy and paste of something I wrote on another thread regarding shrimp:

You may want to check this out as a starting reference...

I happen to like the cleaner shrimp because they "clean" my fish and the fish seem to always come back for more. The blood fire shrimp are related and are known to clean fish as well and, in my opinion, add a nice color to the tank.

The pistol shrimp is kind of cool as it forms a symbiotic relationship with the yellow watchman goby (a cool bottom dweller). I think they form this relationship with some other gobies too although I'm not sure. I believe Atnixon has a pistol shrimp and yellow watchman. The pistol shrimp can also make a 'clicking' noise that you may hear from time to time.

Some people purchase peppermint shrimp because they're known to fight off and eat aiptasia (bad fast-spreading growth that reefers try to get rid of). They're not guaranteed to eat it but I think they look good regardless.

The sexy shrimp is a somewhat smaller and different looking shrimp that gets its name from swaying its 'hips' back and forth.

My buddy has a coral banded shrimp and it's humongous! I don't know too much about them or the others I didn't mention but the link above, along with some other sites you can find, should give you a general idea of what you may want.

Again, it's personal preference. What "purpose" do you want them for? I mean to add color or to clean up or...?

It's really up to you!

For some reason it looks like a Blue tang.

That would be awesome! What kind of blue tang you think?

It is a blue fish. I've gone through my photos to see if I have any others I can share, to help. I did ask the former owners to give me a list of what is in the tank but they've been too busy :( Fortunately, I think I'm pretty bright, lol, and have figured out most of it through research. I'm just stuck on this last fish.

I've included links to three more pictures. One captures the blue fish and the yellow tang in the same one. When I look at him, he seems to have more of the body shape of a damsel.

About the shrimp, I'd like something that will clean the tank well, but also be "pretty" or fun to look at. I have a two year old and I would like something that is eye-catching for her!

Yes, it does look like a damsel or chromis!

Can anyone tell me if I need to be feeding live brine fish, squid or anything like that for what's in my tank?

Also, what kind of clip do I use for holding in the nori for the tang? I've been putting it under a rock but I'm short and that's not very easy to do in a tank that's taller than me!

Well, your yellow tails and clowns are omnivores so they'll eat both meaty and veggie foods. Some people like to make their own mixtures up with various seafood from the grocery store. There are frozen foods at most pet stores- mysis, emerald entree, brine (if given at all- should be on occasion since it barely has any nutritional value), etc. Some people feed flakes. Some people soak their fish food in vitamins or a garlic extract- things like Selcon, Zoecon, Vita-Chem, etc.

A clip like this one should do:

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=4446&Ntt=veggie%20clip&Ntk=All&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Np=1&pc=1&N=0&Nty=1

They should sell these at most fish stores too. There are different kinds (I've even seen ones that are clownfish clips!) and even some seaweed packages come with the clips included.

The Tangs are technically herbivores but seem to eat almost anything! Nori/seaweed, spirulina, and even some macroalgae is good for them but most Tangs will eat anything you throw in the tank! :D

the mystery fish is def. a damsel. maybe some whacked out color form of a sgt. major, or like a figi devil, but it's definately a damsel.
for teh eye-catching shrimpi would do a fire shrimp IMO nothing beats these.

Yep- after seeing those last 2 pictures it looks like a damsel, but LARGE! I was also going to suggest the fire shrimp as there isn't a lot of red you can put in a tank (except maybe a flame angel or hawkfish).

Do you plan on adding anymore fish Angie? Haha, not to overwhelm you or anything! :D

Yes, I want to add more fish, that will be my next step, after adding the clean up crew and making sure I haven't destroyed the tank by doing that ;) I want fish that are pretty (see how I'm shallow like that?), easy to care for since I'm a beginner, not too aggressive with other fish and who I can feel safe sticking my hand in the tank to clean it

Thanks for the ID on the damsel!

firefish are great and peaceful, also some more red that you can add to the tank!:D

How about a dwarf angel? They come in a variety of colors.

I do need more red in the tank, I was thinking that last week. My problem is I have to be careful about adding anything right now, because I might be moving and I don't want to buy fish to only end up trying to transport them or selling them :(

Red = Flame Angel! :)

Ahhh...the dreaded move. Stressful but usually worth it in the end.
