gourami suddenly dies

Our gourami died today. He had been hovering near the bottom of the tank for a few days with a rather swollen belly. As our swordtails just had fry, and he wasn't eaten anything, I guessed he ate the lot of them, hence the swollen stomach.
Are gouramis prone to constipation? Could it have been that? Or maybe a parasite (we had him in the tank maybe 6 weeks)

How long have you had him?

They ARE known to get stomach parasites... Any new additions lately?

Sorry for loss, they are beautiful fish... :(
 
My Honey Gourami died of constipation / a parasite too, im pretty sure thats it, alot of them have those things these days :(
 
I had the same thing happen with a dwarf a long time ago I hear if you feed them sun dried baby shrimp it helps with digestion and helps prvent constipation.
 
We had him maybe 6 weeks. We added two oto's to the tank last weekend, could they have anything to do with this? One of the oto's was trying to latch to the dead gourami, but I have not seen them do that to any life fish......His scales were fine and I do 40% waterchanges once a week. I will look into that shrimp advise as I will replace him with a new dwarf, in a couple of weeks...
