I hate when you put your whole question in the subject.... then you don't have anything to write here.
uhhh....
So anyway I have an Eclipse system 6 with onyx sand substrate and it has given me quite a rise in ph. This is lightly planted with 2 large Java ferns, Java moss & an Anubis nana. Any fish you know of that like a 7.4-7.8 ph that aren't cichlids?
I was kinda thinking about tetras (cardinal or black), platties, groumi's, or maybe even a betta. Any thoughts? Should I add DIY CO2 to bring the ph down? It just seems like overkill for a 6g.
Thanks :)

Stability is key. If so you could add most anything. I once kept neons @ 7.6

cardinals might be iffy but i have a ph of 7.8 in my planted tank and i have angels, columbian tetras, otos, harlequin rasboras.
If you check with your LFS and what ph they keep their fish it should be ok.Most tetras do well in any water, as long as the are aclimated well.
In a 6g i would go with maybe a betta(or dwarf gourami, but only 1) and a few cories. Or you could get a school of about 5 tetras(depending on which tetra you choose). A 6g isn't much room so becareful not to over stock.

White Cloud Mountain Minnows are also very attractive IMO. They have a bright red spot on their tail and some of mine have yellow around the edges of their fins.

High pH? There are some shellies that can live in a 5g (or 6g) with high pH...you'll find those on these links. The problem is that they like consistent water quality, so you'll need to be diligent with water changes.

(That one is actually just interesting, but it gives you an idea of the dynamics of social interaction between the shellies.)

You're right. Crud...apologies for the shellie suggestions, then!
Bettas will do fine in that water, if carefully acclimated!
haha, gotta love us cichlids guy's. nice suggestion though childawg. :) . thats the answer I woulda been looking for

I actually have some cichlids... 4 angels and something I've yet to id. They're cool, but I'm looking for something different. No offense, but I don't really like cichlids *ducks for cover*
Can you keep a betta with tetras? I'm thinking that would be a good option. Hang on... i'll post a pic.
ChilDawg awesome links though. I love it when people post links. I do appreciate your input :)

I've heard, in other threads, about Neons being fin-nippers to the point where a Betta might be pretty well-damaged if kept with them...
I kept white clouds with a betta and they all got along. Plus it really makes the white clouds school better. The betta generally ignored them , though he would like to go for a once a day chasing session. You would just want to keep the tank in the low 70's as white clouds like it on the cool side.

Ok, I have a Galaxy 5 (walmart knockoff) and have 6 zebras running around with some live plants. So far they are doing fantastically.
But some other fish I recommend are:
A paradise fish
Dwarf livebearers/ least killie. Smallest livebearer
Endlers live bearers.
a fw puffer
a plant tank with just amano shrimp and a mystery snail
or even dwarf clawed frogs.
Who says you need to have fish?
There, that should be a different selection of stuff. :)

Sorry about those pics btw, it was pretty late last night when I took them and none of the lights were on.
tricksterpup, could you post some pics of your setup (email me (superjohnny@attbi.com)if you need them hosted)? That sounds interesting. This is going to go in my cube at work so I don't want anything that's going to be hard to keep.

Johnny,
no problem. I will have to take some pics of it.
I keep it here at work along with 2 other tanks.. yes, i have 3 tanks on my desk.
2 gallon betta tank
walmart starfish tank, with one Paradise fish..
and the Galaxy 5 with the Zebras.
That setup is with:
6 zebra Danios
plants:
hornwort (Ceratophyllum Demersum)
Anacharis (elodea densa)
Jungle Val (Vallisneria americana)
Wendtii - red (cryptocoryne wendtii)
I am also running a CO2 system on the tank. it is the Natural plant system from hagan. It is a dyi system that is for tanks up to 20 gallons. Its not a bad little system so far. it looks much better in the work place than a plastic soda bottle. :)
I do regular water changes every friday. Old water goes to my plants on my desk and for others here in the office. It is not much a hassle here. So you should be ok.
