I have 2 Oscars in a 75 gallon tank. They are both approx 6 inches, on is a Red, and one is a Tiger. I do not know the sexes however. The other day I noticed that every so often, the Tiger Oscar vibrated his tail. It was kind of hard to notice unless I really paid attention. His tail vibrated very fast in an up and down motion. The Red Oscar did not do it at all. Has anyone ever seen this before, or know what it means?

Thanks!!

That might be a sign of territoriality, or a sign of "danger".

I have only heard of it as a signal to get fry to come back to the nest because of imminent danger, but I doubt that you would miss a bunch of Oscar fry!

My red tiger does that too. Don't know why though

my oscars do this all the time. in old oscars it shows aggression, and usually during breeding. dont get your hopes up though. i think i have two females, and they do it all the time, they even go as far as making a nest. hope this helps :)

Thanks for the replies. It doesn't seem like I have to worry about it. I tell you, these Oscars never cease to amaze me. :D

I wish that I could get them...it seems like there's a new behaviour or two reported every month here! (Now if I only were able to sink the $$$ into a tank, and able to move it twice a year!) :)
