I didn't have my camera with me, but I saw some rather nice looking reddish broad-leaf underwater plants in a local marsh (S. Texas) - I was thinking that a couple of these would look fantastic in one of my tanks at home, but I'm worried about introducing pathogens and what-not from an outside environment. Has anyone done this, and if so, how did you do it?

I was thinking that I could set up a temporary tank for the plants after they arrive at home, let them adjust to a home environment, and after a couple weeks of observation, finally introduce them into the community tank.

Thoughts?

besides pathogens i would also make sure they are aquatic plants. i guess a bleach deep would kill anything, i think the mix is 1 part bleach to 20 parts water....not sure since ive never done it before

just make sure that if any of you guys are raising plants from wild waterways, that you do NOT EVER distribute those to other members in the nation, as some aquatic plants are illegal in some areas, and aquatic plants released into a non-native waterway can cause the same problems as a non-native fish. :)

but if you find em and wanna keep em in your tank, more power to ya! post some pix! ;)
