I have a pictus catfish, and while at the lfs I bought a snail, and my catfish has harrased it since i got it, it is a golden apple snail. This suprised me as he has shown no interest in smaller fish in the tank or ghost shrimp that I feed my cichlid. Is he going to be eaten?

Probably. Pictuses will also just randomly (it seems, anyway) pick off tankmates at night due to hunger. As long as you keep it pretty well-fed, the tankmates might not disappear, but they still might...I'm not guaranteeing anything to you either way.

it just seems out of character for him, granted he is territorial, but he went after this guy with the lights on. Guess he liked the way he smells.

P.S. He has never killed any of his tankmates before and passes on ghost shrimp like they are not even there

go figure
