Is the light suppose to be sitting on the glass like that? What kind of bulbs are you using?

Looks good..

It's Standing On The Legs.

Bulbs are dual phosphor smartPaq 10000°K daylight and 460 nanometer actinic

Generating 65 Watts 3.25WPG

Ok, most legs i have seen hook to the side of the tank...You should change out the actinic bulb, wont do much good for the plants, so the wattage from them dont really count...

Okay, finally woke up, took a full day, I'm excited now. LOL

On mine the legs attach to the tank or to the canopy. Yours throws some nice light, but as noted above on the bulb.

Looks great! I like that light...how does it look at night with the lunar light? Do you have to use the legs or can you place it flat on the glass part? I am wondering about ordering one myself :) Michelle

You can do it either way, on the Glass, or on its legs, i read somewhere it looks better on its legs.

I dont understand what you are all saying about the bulbs, theres like 2 bulbs attached together with what looks like silicon.

"Integrated compact fluorescent light fixture with LED Lunar Light simulates 24-hour day and night lighting cycle. The Satellite compact fluorescent light fixture is the first entry level lighting system to include the latest technologies and professional features at an affordable price. Advanced built-in electronic ballast ensures consistent high performance and low energy consumption. Features an acrylic splash guard to protect bulbs and a durable low profile aluminum housing for years of reliable use. Moon White Lunar Light produces a crisp white glow that simulate nocturnal light conditions for optimum nighttime viewing. Includes dual phosphor SmartPaq (10000°K daylight and 460 nanometer actinic) bulb that provides 3 times the light output of standard fluorescent bulbs. Square pin system."

So, my question is, how much watts am i pulling that currently "COUNT"

I can't tell you about the bulbs but I can say that I would be a littel weary about the legs sitting directly on the glass top like that. The legs are meant to be supported by the tank's edge, that's why there is the space you see on the footing of each. Move the legs out more so they can grip the tanks edge instead.

Tank looks great!

You have one PC bulb, does it only have one attachement at the end to hook into your strip? That being said..it is most likely a 50/50, You should replace it ASAP with a 10000k daylight bulb only to get the desired results. You can consider yourself running about 37 watts of light "that count" over your tank atm...

dont use actinic blue for freshwater planted set ups. that type of lighting is not beneficial for freshwater plants at all. try getting something between 6000-10000k rating.

the lower the kelvin rating, the yellower the light is. if you like a the bright white like cloudy sky light go for the 10000k. if you like bright, sunny afternoon light go for 6000k

Now I'm more confused than ever. Should he change the bulbs and if so...to what? I really like this light set and want to purchase it myself once I clear this up in my own mind.

They are trying to tell you that actinic bulbs or 50/50 bulbs (what you seem to have) are not good for planted tanks. Plants do not use actinic light, so its best to have a daylight spectrum bulb for planted tanks. Anything in the range of 5000K-10000K will work, with 5000K looking reddish I believe, 6700K yellowish/green, and 10000K is whitish colored light. Anything in that range will work though. When you get a chance, I'd get a bulb in that Kelvin range. Since plants don't use actinic lighting, 50/50 bulbs are said to only have about half the useable wattage for planted tanks (since half of it is 10000K) so instead of 3 or so watts per gallon that you would have with a daylight bulb, you only have about 1.5wpg of useable watts over the tank.

I hope that makes some sense....;)

If you like the color then you could keep that bulb, but keep in mind you would be limited to mostly low light plants and maybe some medium light. With a daylight spectrum bulb, you'd be able to go with medium and some higher light plants......so having a 50/50 or actinic bulb will most likely limit your plant choices.
