cherry shrimp and metals?

Okay, the majority of my experience is raising African Clawed Frogs. With them, I absolutely know that no metals whatsoever are to be near them! But what about cherry shrimp? I'm not having any problems with my cherries, they are rapidly multiplying, I am not seeing any losses, but I'm new enough to this that I'm afraid of trying anything different without guidance! I'm debating on buying 49 square inches of riccia that is loosely placed in a mesh wire(hopefully the picture will show!). I of course don't want to get this if it will have any adverse effect on the shrimp. Thanks in advance!

Copper, even the smallest of traces, will wipe out all inverts...in fact its normally the main ingredient in treatments that eradicate snails.

However, people dont normally use them due the effects on fish.

You would have to be sure that there was no copper whatsoever on the wire...I would assume that there is copper on any sort of wire. Copper is malleable and ductile, hence its uses on wire and plumbing, it also has low corrosion that breaks down (when it turns green it forms on the surface and protects the copper underneath - although you not necessarily see the green in a combination...like brass). Its a safe bet to assume its there.

Is there a plastic alternative to your wire grid you could use to avoid the risk?
