quarantine questions

I have been running an xp2 (new) and a penquin 100 from an established tank on my 36g for about a month now. I did not experience any sort of mini-cycle. I would like to set up my quarantine in order to expand my neon and cory shoals. How long should I run the quarantine with the penquin 100 before introducing new fish? Can I set it up, get the temp. good and then introduce fish? Do I need to wait a week or days? If I need to wait, do I keep my bacteria alive by adding some fish food or should I toss my mystery snail in there? Should I expect a mini cycle in my 36g? I plan on quarantining for a month, is this sufficient? Is it necessary to prophylactically medicate with something like melafix?

If you're going to quarantine the fish, might as well go up to a monthm but no less than 2 weeks. I wouldn't add medicine of any sort unless something comes up. Just try to keep the temperature up in case it's something common like ich and then all you need to do is raise it a little bit more and add the salt treatment.
