I am going to get a 75 gal. aquarium on the 2nd floor of our house. There is a bathroom (contains 2 sinks) just a few feet away from where the aquarium would be. I plan on getting a python for water changes, but where would I emtpy the water - into a sink? I don't want to clog the pipes or make the bathroom smell like fish..this is a brand new house, we just moved in and I want to do it right.

I thought that pythons were built to have the water empty into the sink from whence the new water came...I don't know if you could empty it elsewhere...

it's unlikely your aquarium water will stink up the room. unless something hard and undecayable stuff goes down your drain, it will not clog. imagine using the toliet. which smells more, fish water or toliet water? as long as it goes down the drain, it wont smell.

Course with those new low-flow toilets, your not guarenteed that the "you know what" will go down in the first place.

You can start the syphon, unscrew it from the sink and hang it out the window:p . I just send mine down the sink though.

If you have house plants, they would appreciate the effluent as would any garden. Seems a shame to me to dump such wonderfully nutritious water down the drain! I use the old water from all but the SW systems for house plants and the gardens. Heck, my co-workers compete with each other to get to use the old tank water for thier plants.

Yea, you can just dump it down the drain, nothing will happen, unless there is a snail that gets caught, then, you whole house might become infested with them. ;)

I would think that I would have a least a few snails go down here and there..could that really be a problem or am I worrying to much?

I was just kidding, even if you suck up a snail, they get stuck in the piece that you turn to reverse the flow, so when you go to fill the tank, just let it come out.
