Hey, thanx for everyone whos answering my questions, I know Ive had a lot lately.. Just got Salifert test kits for calcium and alkalinity. Also I got some supplements for these as Ive heard they can run low in aquariums. However, my readings are tha Im actually on the other end.. Im over the ideal range. My calcium is at least 500ppm (test kit wont go higher) and my alkalinity is about 13.4d(KH)/ 4.8 (alkalinity). Both these results are a little above the ideal range, is this really bad? If so, what can I do? Thanx.....

Yes, they are above the prefered range. Unless you see some signs of stress among your organisms, there is no need to worry. The levels will come down on their own.
If you are seeing some negative effects, or you suffer from OCD like I do, you can do a partial water change to get things back in order.
Are you using Oceanic salt, BTW?

Haha, yeah i got the OCD bad, too bad its only with fish as I could prob use it in other areas. And yes Im using Oceanic.. been doin some research and saw that it can have alot of calcium. Is this what you were getting at?

I also had problems with extremely high calcium levels and I never dosed calcium. I found this article which I found of some use. Hope it helps you. http://www.aquariacentral.com/articles/calcium.shtml
Yeah, I suspected you might be using Oceanic. I used it for a while but I ended up with so much calcium deposited on the walls and pump of my mixing barrels that I switched to something else.
