im interested in moonlighting my tank in my bedroom but dont know where to begin?

Which tank is that? What fish are in it? Moonlighting is generally most useful when you have nocturnal fish.
In answer to your question, it is best done with special fluorescents, but if you have plants, you're gonna need to keep the daylight ones in there, too.
You might just have to buy a new hood!
i was guessing i would have to buy a new hood. i would like it in my planted community tank, but i have a bumble bee cat that is nocturnal, and i would just like to have the moonlight setting in my bed room :) if it turns out to be too expenseive there are the spot light things forsale at petco. hear anything about those?
