my LFS has gotten in some needlenose gar, and i am very interested in them. says they'll only get about 8". anyone have info on these? thanks!

8" sounds a bit small for a cancilla. I'd shoot more for 10-12". A 55 will do, but a 75 is better. If you can get them to eat frozen or pellets, great, though I've never seen them eat anything other than live. That includes crickets too. They're fine together but make sure they're the same size. You can have some catfish on the bottom too if you like, like a pictus school or some striped platydoras.

I had one in with some large barbs and chiclids in a 60G and he was great. Would eat pellets and live food. One thing to watch out for though, they are really good jumpers. I came home one day and found him on the floor :-( . Haven't bought another one, yet.
my long nose gar jumped out of the tank once luckily he landed in an empty walmart bag lieing next to the tank so i could hear him flopping around :)
