I had a really good set up going with a gourami, siamese fighting fish, neons, other tetras, algae eaters and a paradise fish (which is very passive).

Problems arose when i put a pair of kribs in the tank. I thought they were going to be reasonably passive, though i new they would be defensive when they wanted to start breeding. The problem is they were basically trying to eat the siamese fighter to death (which i stopped) and then tried to eat the paradise fish.

Now i've taken the siamese fighter and the paradise fish out everything seems to be fine.

Just wanted to know whether this is normal or have i been completely stupid even though i thought i had researched well enough?

I wouldnt normally associate this with kribs, but it is obviously the long flowing fins that they went for. Out of this topic, paradise fish are not very good community fish, and tend to prefer temperatures lower than the normal tropical range - they are really best kept in a species tank at room temperature.

Hope this helps,
Thom.

Your best bet would be to post this in the Cichlids forum, as there are many individuals there who know Kribs and are willing to help you out there!

I got a pair of kribs a few weeks ago. For several days, they bullied every other fish in the tank (lemon tetras, danios, cories, otos). After a while, the other fish seemed to stay out of my kribs' way and everyone is much happier. I probably wouldn't leave your betta in there (I have one in a separate bowl) and I don't know anything about paradise fish but your kribs might settle down after a few boundaries are established.
