On recent posts ive been seeing people say python rather than gravel vacc or siphon. It is a popular item obviously but should that give the product thingy a name change? Is it monopolizing? Well only one way to find out :)

I wont vote since i have no say in it, im just using a top fin gravel vac and a maxi-jet 1200 pump..... (never tried the python)

P.S by monopolizing i dont mean fully monopoly and it is controling everything and earning all the money like what happened in the guilded age, but just something that everyone is using and recommends, monopolizing just sounds cooler.....

It is the most populat model, out preforming all others. It's greatest feature is the flexibility of the hose even after years of use. One of mine is 24 yrs old.

Voted No it has not become a monopoly, Just the most "commonly" used ones.

You're Old :dance2: Heh jk

Yep, 53. But of all the other styles out there, over the yrs, the hose never seems to seems to get brittle and crack. There have (are0 issues with the faucet tee cracking (leaking), but the brass adapter cures that, and I normally siphon to the tub or outside. Don't like wasting water to get water out of the tank.

I have a python and a non-python siphoner - I refer to them both as siphoner/water changers & both do the job!

I think it just has to do with what canucksfan said about tylenol.

Its the most recognizable name,.... there are people who wouldnt know what a gravel vac is, but who will know what a python is. (in a non-snake context)

I use the Lees brand but still refer to it as the Python as most know what I mean that way.

Just like calling a tissue a Kleenex; generic term for all like items. Over in Britain, vacuum cleaners all seemed to be called Hoovers (a popular brand).

Or a lot of people call all small four wheel drive vehicles (weather Land Rover, Toyota Land Cruiser or Jeep) as Jeeps; which gets on my nerve-I drive a Land Rover, not a &*&^%%^ Jeep!

Sorry, just a Rant of mine!
