do you have to use the brand phosban in the reactor as the media or can I use something like kent or phosguard? I think it would be ok but I'm not positive.

Do not use Phosguard as it will release Aluminum Oxide which will kill some of the corals, like leather!!!
I also want to know which brand of PO4 absorber is reef safe or other methods to reduce the PO4 concentration, please help us!

x2, I have a few lfs that use it w/o any problems. I am not sure how long they keep it in for.
I found out for sure that other media brands can be used in the phosban reactor.

You can use whatever brand you like. I prefer the iron oxide based medias, like PhosBan or PhosPure. Rowa makes a good phosphate remover as well.

If its any help, i have the Kent phosphate remover and it specifically claims on the package that it DOESNT release aluminum oxide into the water..

Rowaphos is the best stuff out there. Pricey, but definitely the best phosphate remover, u never have to worry about it releasing anything back into the water. I wouldn't trust anything else. In this hobby you get what you pay for.
