Just got 2 clowns, they are so mean!

So I'm SO super excited I was finally able to add 2 blk/white clowns today. I was able to talk the guy at my LFS down from $42 a piece to $35. They were in seperate tanks at the store and are pretty darn near the same size. He told me it would be fine to drip acclimate them together and so I did. They were so busy beating each other up they didn't seem bothered by the acclimation at all. After a few hours in the cooler I put them in the tank and they didn't even check out their new home because they were so busy fighting! Even now, 2 1/2 hours later they still are picking on each other. How long should I expect this to go on before one finally gives up dominance? Fortunately the fish are extremely healthy, they'd been at the shop for quite a while and are just gorgeous. I figured since they are close to the same size there would be a battle but didn't realize how serious it would be! Mean little buggers they are!

Have you tried turning the lights off. Put the tank to bed a little early today and they should both find a spot to spend the night in and cool off. Hopefully when the lights come on they will be cooled off enough to get along. Then again they may never get along and fight till one dies. You'll have to play it by ear.

1) how big's the tank
2) both might be males/females
3)if they weer in seperate tanks at the store i think they might be the same sex.

they lights have been off. i just actually turned them on and that seems to have settled things! now they are just swimming together nicely - crazy fishies! Oh and the tank is a 37 gallon, other inhabitants = pj cardinal, blue neon goby and a skunk cleaner shrimp - oh and some snails and crabs.

Glad to hear it worked out for u. Turning the lights off usually settles down any fueds. Unless of coarse its bigger fish like angels who will fight constantly. Good luck with them in the future.

They went nighty night for now... will try to post a pic tomorrow - they are SOOOO beautiful!
It's funny tho, the slightly bigger one seems to have lost the feud. I'm glad she/he gave in tho! Last I checked they were swimming around like little identical twins :)
