I read from a website that it was possible to pair kribensis by just throwing male and female into a tank, from what i've known of other cichlids, you'd need at least 6 of them to eventually develop a pair, but are kribs different? is it really possible to just have male and female and overtime you get a pair form them?

That's all it took for mine! They had fry in three weeks and have had another spawn every few weeks ever since. lol They must really... like each other.

I would be careful just throwing a male and female in together. A lot will depend on the size of the tank and the amount of places to hide. I have known of some people having trouble getting them to pair and ending up losing several females before they found one that would pair up.

I've had 3 pairs of kribs over the years. The best pair were one that formed naturally at the LFS. Another pair that were a forced pair did OK, and the third pair started their own WWIII despite spawning off and on. I'd say give them choice of some sort (at least a couple of females for a male to choose from)...or better yet, watch the LFS tanks and see if you can find a pre-bonded pair.

aww. i've actually ran into that kind of trouble in the Past because the lady at the lfs somehow thought that i had 1 male and 2 females.. but instead gave me 3 females who were all agressive to each other. that's why i was hesitant to go back to kribs. even though i have convicts? lol. kribs seem much more agressive.
