I would like to setup a new 65 gal aquarium stocked with glow-lite tetras, rasboros and peppered corys. I would like to use a very dark gravel or sand (black perferred). I was looking to use Tropic Isle Tahitian Moon Sand as my substrate, however, I'm not sure it is suitable for the corys. Anyone have any suggestions?

thanks, :)

Tahitian Moon sand is great for corys. I used white pool filter sand & I wish it was darker. I'm also trying play sand, a nice tan but I may be sorry it's so fine. If you're not doing live plants a thin layer (1/2 inch) is ok & less likely to develop anaerobic areas. Sounds like a pretty tank.

CaribSea specifically says that this substrate is not safe for bottom dwellers! Tahitian Moon sand is an unnatural substrate that is pretty much just small pieces of glass. It should never be used with any bottom dwellers IMO.

Caribsea makes some fine gravels, and I have used flourite with all my cories and loaches.

ive always thought that nitrate played a larger part in the health of the barbels rather than the substrate.
