I had been treating for ich for about 3 weeks with salt and heat, the last sign of it was mid last week, so its been well over a week since i saw the last cyst. Anyway, started reducing the heat and doing daily water changes to get the salt out in prep for my clown pleco's arriving (they did today) weds. everything seemed great, all my tetra's were eating. One was eating maybe a little too much, its the largest of the nine and i noticed she was getting a little fat looking. Anyway, while setting up the drip line to acclimate the pleco's, i looked over and noticed this tetra was at the surface breathing heavily and her belly is brown and a bit bloated. I've transferred her to my qt tank since she is definatly acting strange and has a bit of a shimy. bad news is the qt tank isn't fully cycled, its a 10g and i did a 100% water change but i figured one cardianl tetra in a 10g wouldn't run up the bioload very fast.

tank is heavily planted
I dose nitrate every few days, otherwise, all reading are consistantly 0. I feed 2 out of three days usually. for the 9 tetra's (only fish in the tank right now) i usually do 3-5 flakes crushed up or two small pellets crushed up which they clean up pretty fast. I tried feeding freeze dried omega bloodworms about a week ago, but only a few and i haven't since since they didn't seem to care for em all that much (except this one who pigged out, but she pigs out on everything). I tried to feed small bits of pea today, but only a couple of them were interested, this one was't at all.

theres no sign of pinecone scales.

//edit, well i looked over while writing this and shes lying on her side at the surface. still alive, but i suspect for not much longer. dammit, and i have these clowns i need to do something with.

Well, she already died. it looked almost like her gut split open, luckily she was in the qt tank so no cannabilism. while i guess i noticed she seemed a bit fatter then the others and had a differnt coloring to the belly, I certainly hadn't seen the gasping behaviour until this afternoon (the tank is between my living room and kitchen so when I am home I am almost constantly looking at it and this behavior jumped out as soon as i saw it). none of the others have the same look to them, but once again I have found something new to watch for. I'll definatly be checkign them out closer when I turn on the lights and before the red colors up on them in the morning. Also Time to visit petco again I think to observe more diseases in action (the local petco's are an absolute textbook of fish ailments) so maybe i can spot this stuff sooner.

I hope you're not purchasing your fish there I have heard that all their tanks are hooked up to one line and that if one tank gets ich they all do. Might be better to look somewhere else to purchase your fish.

petco? never again. I did once with disastourous results. now, I just window shop and try to figure out whats wrong with their stock.
