That's why when I get sodas I just say "Diet". It gets me a diet coal product, with no Coke or Pepsi gas.
It's Jack and Coke because only Coke tastes right with Jack. Same with rum. Dunno why, but Pepsi just doesn't taste right as the mixer.

Here in the South, it's always "coke," no matter what kind of soda. Or sweeticedtea (said just like that).

In NY we call it soda. When I'm in a restaurant I ask for diet cola so the ' we only have coke' or 'we only have pepsi' nonsense can be skipped.
over here the generic word for any fizzy drink is "mineral" as in "would you like a mineral" or "do you have any minerals"

I heard that. If someone is taking your order, they dont ask what you want to drink, they ask what kind of coke you want. Or they have "coke products"

Were I am now... pop
My grandma who always has strange sayings calls it soda-pop like it was one word, which has become a bad habit I've picked up lol. So my option wasnt available.

I say soda but I also have those grandparents that call it soda-pop.

I think we call it that because it's non-alcoholic, hence 'soft'. I actually call it fizzy drink or soft drink... or carbonated non-alcoholic beverage!

I normally call it by name. A coke is a coke, a pepsi is a pepsi, a mountain dew is a mountain dew...you get the idea. I guess I would generalize them all as sodas, however. (ie, "I'm gonna go grab a soda"). Though in that reference, I would probably just say "I'm gonna go grab a drink."

Why is 'Cola' included in the list... Ive heard that one tossed around alot.
I usually only call it mix, as in where is the mix for my rum. Don't drink to much of it besides when it is used as a mix.
