just attained 4 new brilliant firefish gobies, and all 4 seemed okay when introduced into the tank, swimming nicely and finding places to hide..
just all of a sudden 1 of them lie down between 2 rocks and seem to be gasping for air.. sometimes 1 of the others will lie down with him for a while..
what's happening?

okay, my firefish are now alright, maybe he just happened to be sleeping on his side, was really worried.. is that usual behaviour?

Stress could be a factor that is not concidered. New fish do show some strange behavoir after they have been introduced into an aquarium.
As they are all now fine, for the time being, can you post your current water parameters, just so we can check what is going on and make sure they are all fine..

water change never hurts. i agree it sounds like stress.

i have had a firefish for over 2 weeks now, so I'm not expert. With that being said... my firefish has found a favorite place to hide under some live rock. he sits nearly motionless under the rock when he's resting. he doesn't gasp for air though...
Glad to hear they are doing better. what i'm trying to say is don't be alarmed if they sort of lay on the sand. seems to be normal behavior. but if they are gasping then its ok to be alarmed. hehe.
