So, is there anyone else here besides me and guppyguppyfish that is absolutly obsessed with pirates?

Or at least is excited for the 3rd movie

Malbri

OMG!!!!

Its now opening the 24th!!!
"Instead of screening at midnight, Disney will now start the show at 8 pm on May 24th. They are hoping to earn back their bragging rights, as the early screenings will be added into the opening weekend grosses."

I liked the first one. Just saw the second one this weekend and I thought it was mediocre at best.

The storyline was hard to follow and the relationships between Jack Sparrow and the other characters were inconsistent to the first POTC. Also, the humor seems overly silly and forced. Hopefully the 3rd one will be better.

Malbri
05-23-2007, 4:23 PM
its inconsistant because you cannot trust pirates nad they are always doing something that changes someones mind about them

The third installment of the "Pirates" series revisits all of the characters from the previous films, with assorted missions and goals: The British commander is still bent on controlling the seas and annihilating the pirate population, Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is still dead-ish, Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) is desperate to save his father (Stellan Skarsgard) from Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) and the Flying Dutchman, and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) is desperate to save Jack. Also with Geoffrey Rush, Jonathan Pryce and Chow Yun Fat. Directed by Gore Verbinski & George Marshall Ruge. [2:45]

SEX/NUDITY 4 - A husband pulls on one of his boots, and asks for the other one that his wife is wearing, and he takes it off her foot and kisses her bare knee while caressing her thigh (it is implied that they have sex).
► A man walks with his arms around two women who wear low-cut dresses that reveal cleavage. After a ceremony is performed a woman begins to grow, she becomes very large, but her clothing does not grow and she is left with a skimpy outfit that reveals cleavage, bare shoulders, bare abdomen and bare thighs. A woman wears a low-cut dress throughout the movie that reveals cleavage and bare shoulders. A woman is told to remove her pants and she does (she is left wearing a tunic that reveals her bare legs). Several women wearing revealing outfits stand outside a bathhouse striking seductive poses. Men are shown bare-chested in several scenes.
► A man hiding in a lower level looks up through floorboards to see under a woman's tunic (we don't see anything).
► A man pushes a woman against a pole and kisses her (please see the Violence/Gore category for more details). A husband and wife kiss in a couple of scenes. A man and a woman kiss. A man whispers into a woman's ear and she moans and swoons. A woman touches a pirate's sea-creature face tenderly (please see the Violence/Gore category for more details).
► People talk about reciting an incantation as if "saying it to a lover." A man in a hallucinatory state sits next to a goat, he comes closer to the goat and it is not clear what his intentions are (food or sex); nothing else is shown.
<DIV align=center>the review continues below...

VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - Pirates have sea-creature features (some more than others): one has an octopus for a head, with many tentacles and translucent flesh, one has a hammerhead shark head with pointy shark teeth, one has an eel head, one has lobster claws for hands, one has spiny crab legs on its back, and one has a puffer fish face with pointy tines; other pirates are shown to be "a part of a ship" so that they speak and move but they are incorporated into the body of the ship -- they can and do pull themselves away (with loud crunches and sometimes leaving pieces behind) but cannot leave the ship.
► Many people in shackles, including one young boy, are lined up and led to gallows where they are hung: we see nooses placed around their necks, and we see the hatches on the floor open and their feet fall through (we see feet twitching a couple of times).
► After an explosion a man is pushed against a ship wall and impaled with a large piece of wood (we see him on the floor with the blood stained wood sticking out of his abdomen and we see him die). A man is run through with a sword (we see the point push out his back, he collapses to the floor and he dies).
► A man's hand is shot off and the hand and a chest he was holding fall to the deck of a ship. A man is shot through the shoulder (we see a bit of blood on the wound).
► A sea-creature pirate forces his tentacles into the nose, ears and mouth of a man killing him (we hear squishing and a crunch). A sea-creature pirate that has the head of an eel attacks a man, and we see the man's head going into the mouth of the eel.
► A dead man is strapped to a barrel, is pulled out of the water and we see his very bloody back where birds have apparently pecked at him (we see another body floating on a barrel in the distance with many birds flying around and standing on him). We see a dead man lying in a pool of water, and when he is turned over we see a large spike in his mouth and sticking out the top of his head. Many dead bodies are piled up on the deck of a ship, and many dead bodies are piled onto a cart.
► A man stands over a woman who's lying on the ground and shoots her (we see her feet twitch). A man is stabbed in the heart and lies dying on the deck of a ship. A man holds a bloody still beating heart in his hand and a dagger in the other, and he stabs the heart. A man holds a shrunken head.
► Many soldiers push their way into a room, and fight breaks out: we see several people run through with swords, a woman is shot in the head (we see the bloody hole), an explosive device blows up, and others kick and punch each other. A large fight involves many soldiers and sea-creature pirates, and it includes a lot of swordplay with slashing and stabbing. A man punches another man, a gun is shot and a fight breaks out with many people punching and kicking each other.
► A man and a sea-creature pirate fight with swords fight and the man cuts a few tentacles off the pirate. We see a blood-covered, still-beating heart in a box.
► A man with a dagger stands over a dead man and it is implied that he cuts out his heart (we see the man with a large, jagged scar on his chest later). A man who has grown into the side of a ship pulls himself away and his brain is exposed (it wobbles around like Jell-o); then the man holds the brain in his hand and licks it. Several men are shown writhing and bloody after a cannon blast.
► A monkey is shot out of a cannon and we see it with small flames on its back and body before it strikes a creature (the monkey is fine). A man shoots a gun and is thrown back into a hole from the recoil.
► A large pirate ship opens fire on other ships, and we see large holes in the hulls of ships, and men are thrown overboard. A ship falls over what's supposed to be the "end of the world" and people on board struggle to hang onto something (we see a few fall off and into the abyss but we then see them washing up on the shore of a seemingly deserted island). A bomb explodes throwing many soldiers off a pier and into water. A pyrotechnic device is lit, it flies across a crowded dock, and it strikes a building where there are other fireworks and causes a large explosion.
► Two ships sail into a maelstrom, they circle around each other and they fire their cannons at each other, and people on one ship run back and forth across causing the ship to tip over; in the process one man falls overboard and another falls and is caught by some netting but then is crushed by a cannon when it falls on him (we do not see him being crushed).
► Two ships surround another ship and open fire on it, we see the ship being splintered, people are thrown overboard, people are pinned under rubble and one man is engulfed in flames when the ship explodes (we see his body land in a flag in the water). We see many ships in flames after a pirate attack. A large ship fires on another ship repeatedly and a man throws himself from one ship to the other.
► A sea creature pirate grabs a woman around the throat with his large lobster claw. A severed tentacle slithers across the deck of a ship. People on a ship that has sailed into very cold place are covered with frost and they quiver; one man touches his foot, which is frozen solid, and snaps off his big toe (we see the toe separate and he holds it in his hand). A woman holds a man's hand and it withers and decays (it returns to normal when she releases him).
► While hallucinating a man shoots another man, a man stabs another man (we see the sword run him through and hear a crunch, but no blood is visible) and a man acts like a chicken (he lays an egg). After a ceremony is performed a woman begins to grow, she becomes very large, and her weight begins to break up a ship.
► An eel sea creature pirate tries to eat a man, who slashes its head off (we see the head separate, but no blood is visible).
► Several people hold each other at gunpoint, they pull their triggers and the guns spit water; one man strikes another on the head with a gun and the man complains about the blow hurting. A man is punched hard in the stomach, a man punches another man hard in the face, and a man is struck in the head with a shovel and lies on the ground unconscious.
► A man pushes a woman against a pole and kisses her forcefully, and she bites him and he pulls away (no blood is shown). A woman screams and struggles to get off a ship when she realizes that her father is dead. A man shoves a woman against a pole and they speak harshly to each other.
► Two women fight with shoving and slapping over a man. Two women slap a man in the face, and the man slaps another man in the face.
► Several men hold others at gun and bayonet point. Several people in several scenes are held with daggers or swords to their throats. A woman in a small boat rows through dark and foggy waters, she is threatened by three men when she disembarks on a pier, and she grabs one and holds a knife to his throat.
► A very large woman screams and many crabs pour out of her mouth and onto the deck of a ship like a wave, snapping and pinching a few men before going overboard.
► A man with his arms outstretched is tied to a pole and held under water; when he is pulled back out of the water another man threatens to cut his face off and lunges at him (he is stopped before reaching him). Many people on a capsized ship dangle from rigging while under water, they gag and cough when the water washes away from them and they then get back to the surface.
► We see many bodies floating under the surface of the water and there are discussions of the dead being ferried across the water. Several people are shackled together and a woman is used as a bargaining chip during negotiations. A woman is grabbed and taken to the brig.
► Two men in a rowboat are overturned when struck by a large wave (they are OK). A woman is told to take off her weapons and she has many guns and an explosive device.
► Two men argue, and a third yells at them and makes them stop. A sea creature pirate plays a mournful song on an organ and grieves.
► People talk about shooting a man and cutting out his tongue. We hear that a woman killed a man. A man reads a declaration of martial law and lists the rights that are being revoked. Two men talk in a demeaning fashion about "fish people." A man talks about people knowing that they face execution. People talk about a green flash in the horizon meaning that a soul has returned to this world from the dead. People talk about returning a man from the dead.
► A woman touches a sea creature pirate's face and his octopus tentacles disappear and he becomes human briefly. A man in a hallucinatory state sits next to a goat, he comes closer to the goat and it is not clear what his intentions are (food or sex); nothing else is shown. An enormous sea creature lies dead on the shore (a couple of men climb on it and poke it).
► We see several men in a bathhouse that appear to have growths on their skin, while others are heavily tattooed. A man picks up a wooden eye, puts it in his mouth, takes it out, pushes it into another man's empty eye socket (we hear a squish) and then taps him on the back of the head to straighten it. Many people are dirty and grimy with blackened teeth and large scars. A man with a cleaver beheads fish. A man in a hallucinatory state picks up a rock and licks it.
► Many rocks crack open, sprout crab legs and skitter along dry land, then pile under a ship and make it move across the land toward water.

PROFANITY 3 - 2 scatological terms, 2 mild obscenities, 3 exclamations (bloody), name-calling (maggots, salty wenches, geezer, feculent, lummox, traitorous codpiece). [profanity glossary (http://www.kids-in-mind.com/help/glossary.htm)]

SUBSTANCE USE - Items are burned in a bowl and a woman inhales the smoke. A man drinks from a jug of rum, two men drink alcohol, and a man carries a goblet that presumably contains alcohol. A man talks about liking rum and a man proclaims that he performed a dangerous feat "without one drop of rum."

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Pirates, betrayal, deception, love, greed, trust, making choices, promises, grief, legends, Calypso, loss of love, courage, hopelessness, cowardice, running away, bond of love, declarations of war, code, debts, tradition, nobility, good business, priorities, destiny, freedom, delirium, honor, hallucinations, death of a parent, cruelty.

MESSAGE - Acting together as a united front can make a strong enough force to fight seemingly insurmountable odds.

Or this...

The MPAA has rated Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End PG-13 for intense sequences of action/adventure violence and some frightening images.
Johnny Depp's swaggering portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow has parlayed a Disney amusement park ride into a top grossing movie franchise and contributed to a plundering rise in the sale of buccaneer merchandise. The popularity of Pirates even proved captivating enough to lure iconic rocker Keith Richards onto the screen for a minor role as Sparrow's swashbuckling father. But at nearly three hours long, this bloated sea tale drags on and on, leaving some viewers feeling like they've been to the end of the earth… and back.
Similar to it's predecessors, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is jammed with action, frequent and often graphic swordplay, impaling, and aggressive ammunition exchanges between the pirates and the British Navy who, at present, have the upper hand in the war to control the waterways. Secured in a chest on Lord Cutler Beckett's (Tom Hollander) ship is the beating heart of Davy Jones (Bill Nighy). With that organ under lock and key, the tentacled captain and his cursed crew are obliged to help Beckett obliterate every other pirate on the ocean.
To combat the English tyrant, Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightley) and Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) form a provisional and uneasy pact. Forced to confront Beckett and the East Indian Trading Company's exploitation of the seaways, they rally the elusive and eccentric Pirate Lords from around the world, as well as the unlucky Jack Sparrow who has been deigned to the realm of the dead by a dishonorable deed. (Fortunately in this film, coming back from the dead is not an impossible option.)
After a precarious plunge over the edge of the world, the trio and their shipmates rescue Jack and reinstate him as captain of his craft. However, he isn't the only victim of treachery and deceit. Unscrupulous behavior runs rampant on the boats like a bad case of scurvy. While intentions are often good, the methods for achieving the ends aren't always as noble.
Aimed at an older audience, the film delivers feisty characters and plenty of visual activity including stormy ocean battles and sailors who morph into sea creatures or barnacled parts of a ship. Unfortunately the multiple storylines are so intertwined it's difficult to know what character is on which side. Still, Sparrow's less frequent use of alcohol and the lack of smoking is an improvement over the last script that families will appreciate. As well, Will's desire to fulfill his promise to his father, along with some redemptive actions by others, keeps this privateer adventure afloat -- even if only barely above the waterline.
Beyond the movie ratings: What Parents need to know about Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End...
Swordplay, guns and cannons permeate the screen in this swashbuckling adventure, making violence the greatest concern for parents who are trying to decide if their child is ready for this high seas adventure. Many characters are shot, with some blood shown (including gunshots to the head). Multiple characters are impaled with swords (this includes depictions of blades penetrating their bodies and protruding out the other side). Other violence ranges from one-on-one fisticuffs to grand encounters between ships. The later results in cannons blasting and dozens of secondary characters being killed and tossed into the sea. An opening scene shows the hanging of many people who oppose the government (although the actual point of death is not shown, piles of bodies are loaded on carts and taken away). Sexual content is limited to a few low-cut dresses and a married couple's implied encounter. Language consists of a couple of mild expletives and name-calling. Alcohol use is limited to only two short scenes in this episode.

Talk about the movie with your family...
The Pirates of the Caribbean movies have contributed an increased interest in pirates and a rise in related merchandise. In what ways do movies influence trends in society? What impact might Jack Sparrow's character have on others?

Just now saw this thread. It's late, I couldn't sleep and was browsing around. I didn't stay 'til the very end of the 3rd movie. What's this about Elizabeth having 2 children?!!!

Will is cute, but as I'm older, I prefer Jack. My cousin has the biggest crush on Bloom, though.

What makes you think there are 2?

Maybe I misread the earlier posts, as it was very late...or early. Well, I've since found out about the ending where Will comes back after 10yrs? and they have a son. There were heated arguments on that site as to whether or not there will be a 4th movie and if it would also include Will and Elizabeth.

if there is a 4th POTC i will picket outside the theatres telling everyone that they are dumb for watching it. :p:

I get that a few of you guys really don't appreciate the POTC movies, but at least a couple of you, if you were honest with yourself do. C'mon admit it. There's entertainment that comes with the sometimes nonsense, sometimes funny, sometimes dramatic, and sometimes romantic. And the cinematography and cg effects aren't so bad and the actors are pretty easy on the eyes. I'm sure at least one of you guys fancy Elizabeth. Well, there are at least two great looking guys for the ladies to appreciate, so just let us enjoy. Go feed your fish or something.
