pond filter?

not me. I need HOB becuase i don't have plants in my tank to help with filtration. Plants won't do well in that tank becuase of the amount of 02 i'm pumping in it. Now my raised pond has lots of plants and I have a pond bio filter in it.

Thanks,

I'm just looking at different options. I'm planning my next tank. it will be anywhere from 100-2somthing gallons and I want to have a few commons and just let them get huge. I want great filtration

I also was reading somewhere arguments againest UGF's. I'm not too sure about it now, I have ALWAYS used UGF's and had no problems..

what's the take on them here?

Yeah, I myself got lost in the UGF/no-UGF debate. I decided to take a set out of a tank before my tank was cycled. I understand that removing a UGF/RUGF after cycling is completed will mess up the cycle process and cause ammonia spikes. I decided to avoid any possible problems. I have had pretty good results going with out a UGF system in my Goldfish and Tropical tanks. You could go with a Fluval or Eheim canister filter. Pond pumps and filtration are not as quiet :)
Good Luck,

Thanks,

I have just always used UGF but I do find that they suck the dirt down and make it harder to really clean the gravel also when vaccuuming

maybe I"ll try without! just a canister or Canister and HOB?

Yeah, that's the downside of UGF's, getting underneath to clean things.

Wouldn't hurt. My mom n law was meticulous with her water. She had a 90 gallon with 2 Emperor 400's with a canister filter. The water was prolly better than bottled water :dive:
