Hi all,

As you may remember I've just lost half my tank to Brookynella. My spirits have raised the last day or so and want to eventually get on building my tank back up (was going to e bay it all!).
The rest of my fish seem fine, look healthy and are feeding normally.

To reduce the risk of another outbreak I'm plannning a Q tank for the future (couple of difficulties) but was wondering whether it's worth running a UV in my main tank for a short while to kill off the parasite?

I've done some reading and come across conflicting reports of whether or not the UV will actually kill it? The UV units I've been looking at a quite pricey so don't want to waste my money.
Any experience out there?

Thanks.

Running a UV in an outbreak of Ich, will only kill off the paracite when it gets to the swimming stage..I would only use a UV if one is needed and not on constantly....

They are a good thing to have in your weaponry.....

Most of the beneficial things in your water are in your sand / substrate or on your rock. Anything that's free floating is removed by the skimmer, so I don't see why a UV sterilizer would be a harmful addition to your tank equipment.

I have always run one and swear by it. The benefits outweigh any negatives by a lot. I would strongly recommend one to all marine aquarists. Just make sure you get one that is powerful enough for your tank. An undersized unit, is a waste of money because it won't be effective.
