View Full Version : Anyone have false readings with Stress Coat?

I keep having small ammonia readings in my tanks (.25ish) . None of the fishies are acting stressed or abnormal (at least to my eye). I am doing like 25% water changes everyday. The level isn't going down. I am all clear on nitrite readings. I am wondering if this is just a false reading due to the stress coat.. It is already kinda greenish in the bottle. Would that effect my reading or do I really have a slight ammonia spike??

BTW I think I should just invest in some discus with the amount of water changes I am doing ;)

i use stress coat and i still have 0 readings for ammo and nitrite. so i dont think that would be the problem.

anything else you were using? i know some stuff that removes ammonia and nitrite could cause false readings, but i dont think its stress coat.

also, what type of tests do you use? liquid, strips?

Stress coat should not effect your readings. Maybe your test is bad.

I use stress coat once in a while and it does'nt seem to affect the readings...:)

hmmmm... I did accidently put the cap from the nitrite test chemicals on one of the ammonia test chemical bottles. After I noticed the blueish tinge to the top of the ammonia bottle I washed off and thought it would be okay.. Hmmm.. Maybe I should buy some new chemicals and see if that makes a difference or take a sample in to be tested. Thanks for your answers :)

You could also have LFS test some water to see if they get the same redults.

Yeah the easiest way to find out if your test equipment is working fine is to bring a sample in to your LFS to have it tested.
