Today I took my male betta, dwarf platy and mystery snail (and baby pond snails) out of my 5g and transferred them to a 10g. The idea was to use the same stones, same filter, same plants and decor, same everything from the 5g into the 10g and leave the 5g empty for the time-being. A serious problem arose when everything was set up in the 10 and I primed and plugged in the filter from the 5g. It didn't work! Dead to the world! It is/was an Aqua-tech 5/15 hob and only just over 2 months old. Anyway, I had a used Penguin bio-wheel mini from the 10g (not used recently so no good bacteria in it) so I grabbed that one, stuffed both the blue pad and the white pad from my dead one into the penguin, put the old bio-wheel on it also, primed it and it is now running, thankfully, in the 10g. What should I do? Can I/should I replace that wheel part? Is that type of filter supposed to have the white pad in it or only the blue pad? There is room for the white pad and I need the bacteria right now so I would like to leave it in. I'm terrified of having to cycle again and was definately not expecting this little hiccup in my transfer plans.
