OK, so once I have determined that my tank is stable and not on a mini-cycle, I plan to add a little more stock. Here is what I have in my 10g:

1 mostly very gentle and kind male betta
1 lonely male Sunset Coral Dwarf Platy who rubs up against the poor betta for love
1 gold mystery snail
some baby pond snails
3 live plants which are Java Fern, some type of Sword and Hornwort.

Obviously the platy needs someone who likes to be rubbed more than the betta (who ignores it but I'm sure doesn't appreciate it!) so I think I need at least one more male dwarf platy. What else could I have? Can I have just one more male dwarf platy or do I need two more to stop potential nit-picking. Anything that goes in must pose no threat to the betta or the snail so no shrimps that could eat the bettas fins and nothing that might nip the snail, although the platy was a real nuisance the first couple days with the snail but now is perfect with him. Thank you!!!

How about a shoal of small tetras?

You could get one or two more male platys if you'd like.. or you could get 2 females, and just let nature take it's course with them, that way you probably won't ever have any surviving fry...

your platy could use a couple of buds...

get him 2 females... the betta will consume most of the fry anyway, and your platy will be able to fulfill his natural role in the world.

I vote for 2 female platies as well. I have a male platy and two females (on the advice of the LFS)...and the male still rubs up against the gourami at times! Silly platy.
