I will be transferring my 3 bosemanis, 2 glass cats, 1 dwarf platy and 1 balloon molly from my 29 gal to my new 46 gal bowfront.

1. When I transfer, I am planning on taking about half of the water and all of the plants out of my 29 gal. Is this ok?

2. My current tank has a biowheel and the new tank has a cannister. I know normally that you would use the filter from the old tank, but there is no way to attach it on this tank with the lid. Should I place the wheel inside the tank in the water?

3. Once I have transferred water and plants and filled the rest of the way up, how soon can I add the fish?

4. I plan on adding 2 more bosemanis, and a few more glass cats. I am starting to feel bad for my last remaining balloon molly (male), who is spending most of his time alone in the corner since his last companion died. However, he was often nipping and chasing the other males, so I hesitate to add more. I don't want any female livebearers because I don't want to deal with babies. If I do add more, how many should I add? And are they truly compatible with rainbows? The eventual plan is to have a school of bosemanis and a school of dwarf neon rainbows, so I'm not sure if they're all good for each other.

Thanks for all your help!

check out the threads on cycling.

What cannister do you have? Mine has compartments that would hold a biowheel nicely.

what is going into the old tank? You could always get a nice group for your molly in there. Not sure what to do about the baby issue, seeing how mine get fed to my JD when over populated.... others may have some ideas.

On the rainbow issue, I would just stick to one school of rainbows, your boesmanis. Both are my fav and i had to pick between those two choices for a school in my 58gal. Neons stay small @2" and the boesemani are larger @5" and have read many cautions on not having them together. Plus i am a fan of a larger school rather than a few smaller ones. Since you have the glass cats and the rainbows work with those schools.

good luck and have fun! Two tanks are better than one!!!!
