Canister hoses

Just got a 20g Hex with stand. There is 1 small hole in the back of the stand (it is the wood kind, with a door), I assume this hole is for a power cord for a canister. I know this sounds silly but... am I suppossed to drill a hole or cut away part of the stand to get the 2 hoses for the canister out of the stand and up to the tank? I have never has a set up like this, and nevr used a canister before.

That's sort of what I did with my 55 gallon DIY stand. But hey, either way, you own it, do what you want with it. I take a lot of extra time to hide all of my plumbing, my ideal would be a transparent tank that seems to hover in mid air near one wall.
