Hi all

I may be getting a 25ft Python gravel cleaner/water changer soon. My question is, if I am going to change 10% of my tank's water a week, how do I know when this point has been reached using a Python? It is easy with buckets as I know how much my bucket holds, but with the Python the water gets drained straight to the sink does it not? Can someone please explain?

TIA.

Divide your tank into tenths.. OR, the next bucket change you do, eye the water level when you have removed ten percent and just drop the water to that level when using the python..

 Does'nt have to be exact. Approximations will do fine. Pick a midway point or line between the top & bottom (height). Thats about 50%. Half from that point is 25% & so on. You can make a small mark (on the side) if you want but after you do it a few times, you'll catch it on sight & be reasonably close. Good luck, "T"

Whats the water level in the tank useing bucket method ? Its the same level useing the hose,, if i understood the question....:dance2:

Thanks for all the comments. Interesting that people are changing such large quantities of water in one go. Everything I have read says between 10% to 20% a week is ideal.

Weeser - I know how much my tank holds and how much my bucket holds, so the number of buckets calculation is easy.

That amount should only be for a light load fish only tank. I do 50-60% on my 180g a week. Even within the week, things are so messy I cant stand it. Then on Monday, it looks the best it will all week..lol.

I drained to a bucket, then measured the drop in the waterline. 1.5" is about 5gal in my tank. Then I measured down the desired amount and put a piece of tape on the outside in an inconspicuous place. I just drain until it gets down to the tape line. ;)

Of course I tested it once with buckets to make sure. :)
