This past Monday I moved my betta from a 5 gallon tank to a 10 gallon. One think I was hoping for was to have less surface agitation for his bubble nests in the 10. He was constantly blowing bubbles in the 5 and overnight they'd always get blown around. The same thing is happening again in the 10. It must be frustrating for him. Is there some sort of device to create an area for a nest to be held in? Any solution at all to this dilemma?

all you have to do it cut a styrofoam(spelling?) cup directly in half so it makes 2 semi-circles.

then find a way(tape worked for me) to hang the cup with the bottom closed portion against the glass and the open end a little in the water, just enough so the bubles can't escape.

this is the way a lot of people breed the bettas.

hard to explain, so if you dont understand message me and ill try harder?

Either that or float a piece of bubblewrap or similar in the corner of your tank. It really doesn't matter what it is, if it's floating he'll probably attach a nest to it.

The surface agitation is caused by my hob 5/15 filter. I have the flow calmed by using a piece of a soda bottle taped to the back of the filter and curling down over the waterfall so its not bad but still enough to cause some movement. I don't want to bother with changing to a new filter, I just would like to if possible stop his bubbles from blowing all over. This is a community tank with the betta, a mystery snail, a dwarf platy and a couple of others to be added in a week or so. I'm hoping to find a solution that doesn't look odd in the tank, as well as being functional. I do have Hornwort growing in the back corner where Mr. Betta sets up shop so perhaps when that grows to the surface that might help also?
