Nevermind. Once I learned to spell, I found my answer. Please delete this post.

Anyone have a good 'system' for vacuuming the gravel in a planted tank? (or do I/should I even be vacuuming if plants are involved?) I never know if I am vacuuming too much 'stuff' out or not enough. Any help/tips would be appreciated.

Thanks.

:D You can delete it yourself if you want, just hit the 'edit' button and there will be an option to delete it at the top of the edit page.

Mike, that only works about half the time at best...I can't get it to work for me!

It is not necessary to vacuum the substrate, as roots take care of most of the bad detritus...plus, vacuuming around the roots may disturb or even destroy them.

corvettekid82: Thanks, but I tried that. I assumed I didn't have proper persissions to do it or something. But according to ChilDawg, it seems I might have to try it several times.

Thanks guys.

I think the deal is that, once someone posts, you can't take out the thread, but why not just leave it to get answers to that final question?

its not a big deal and it is a common question. i've been on these boards for almost 2 years and I've seen it many of times.

OK, ChilDawg, you have me confused now.

The 2 questions were should I vacuum and how. Your response was I shouldn't; might harm the plants. That would negate the 'how should I' part of the question. (The how becomes, keep the Python away from the gravel and just suck out water for partials.) :D (Just giving you a hard time)
Thanks again for the responses (all).

Yep, yep...I'm a confusing guy! :) I like to vacuum so I have that striped look in the living room carpet.

...and if you use a wet/dry vac, you could do the tank and the carpet. :D
