New to the whole scene. A friend of mine got me interested in starting a planted tank. A couple questions... Does the gravel size affect the growth of the plants at all? Any tips on starting a planted tank? I know it's a high standard, but I was looking at some of Takashi Amano's work, and the man is a genius. I just need to get started, so any foundation plant tips?

Thanks everyone.

Well, are you going to have low light, medium light, or high light? Are you going to use CO2? The size of the gravel generally doesn't effect plant growth, but if you use sand, sometimes it takes a while for plants to root in, I believe.

For a 20 gallon? Corydoras. Get to be about an inch and a half long I believe, and come in many different varieties (albino, juli*, panda, ect.) They need a supplemented diet, need to be kept with at least 3 of their own variety, and like smoother gravel, or sand.
