check it out... i didnt really think anything of it until i lost one of my angels tonight... theres like a fuzzy-velvet looking coating on parts of the angels... the other fish in there look fine.

is it going to kill them?

i had a little bit of a nitrate spike from 5ppm to 20...

i'm in the middle of a wc right now.

help!

It's hard to tell in the picture...does it look like more like gold dust on the fish (velvet disease) or fungussy?

There are medicines to treat either condition, but I would definitely move the fish to QT and treat ASAP...either can kill your fish.

Go find the medicines made by Mardel at the LFS. I can't recall if it's Marcyn or Maracyn 2 that specifically treats for body fungus...which really isn't a fungus. True fungus comes around the side of a wound (on the body or the fin) and tends to stay in that area.

massive water change..the fuzzy stuff is a result of the high nitrites.

get the water changed asap I would do at least 50% and retake the nitrite readings ...how is the ammonia?

you can deal with any fungus but I think this might be slime sluffing off the fish.

you may have a secondary infection as a result of the of the stress but get the nitrites back in order and see how the fish does..clean water will help.

good luck and keep us posted.

my nitrates have been at 0 every time i test but my ammonia was between o and .25 I couldnt really tell.

i'll do the 50 % wc retest and post.

again, thanks a lot fellas!

your tank isn't cycled? Doesn't seem it if your nitrates are 0 yet you've got an ammonia level.

oops i'm sorry, i meant RITES...

odd I read that as nitrites. sorry

5-20 nitrates is fine..but you should show 0 ammonia ..even after a water change and reading .25 within a hour or so the ammonia (total) should still read 0 as the bacteria use both ammonia and ammonium.
please let us know what the parameters are.

even fungus is usually indicative of water conditions(in most cases)
what is your water change schedule?

is this a planted tank?(if it is this can throw the nitrates to low readings.)
I still suspect something amiss in water in the tank..but even so it looks more the angel was losing slime coat.

this can happen for no apparent reason in a well maintained tank.

has anything been introduced the the tank recently? decorations, plants, rock..etc.??
