So I have four bolivians.... 3 males and one female. They've spawned a few times now, and I let nature take it's course as I don't have the raw time needed to build up and maintain a grow out tank as well species only tank for the bolivians.... *but a larger longer tank is already here for them when I have time.

Anyway.... they paired up and spawned again..... What was interesting this time, was that while there were the typical depressions in the fine gravel in various places... I hadn't realized the fry had hatched yet.... By time I noticed them, they were already free swimming (lots of plants).

The interesting part here, is that the remaining two males on the other side of the tank were protecting any fry that were in that area and seemed to have teamed up to do so..... Or perhaps I actually have two males and two females, but hours of watching them and comparing, as well as previous spawns makes me confident I have 3 males and only 1 female.....

Anyone see this before in their tanks? It is pretty cool.

I've seen that with some Tanganyikans like N. multifasciatus but not with any SA fish. That said, Bolivian rams are semi-schooling/community-ish cichlids so it doesn't surprise me.

Cool observation, and thanks for sharing!
