hi all. i have a pair of cockatoo dwarfs in 10 gal. earlier today i noticed the male shaking his head rapidly at the female. is this aggressive behaviour or a sign of breeding? i've never seen this in apisto's before.

I think that it is aggression, but I am not 100% for certain.

Here is the best article that I could find on breeding the piscine Cockatoos: http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/breeding/Zilliox_Apistogramma_cacatuoides.html

All I've really noticed with my two Cockatoos is the standard flaring of the gills and the male waving his tail at the female.

Yep it sounds like breeding behavour. My pair does this quite a bit. They do a lot of posturing and the female seems just as interested in the male as he is in her.
