HELP
My discus have mated - I mean I saw one lay eggs and the other go over them and they are defending the corner of the tank where their sex-toy is... Question is what to do now - I've always hoped for this but am totally unprepared for this moment. Should I pull the cone out with the parents into another tank? What do i do??? thanks

What in the tank with them? If possible, leave them alone. Frightening them could cause them to eat the eggs. Keep the water changes and feeding the same.

let them try and parent raise them..if they can't defend the babies..(they are usually better off with the parents) you may want to move them to a breeder tank.

I went out and came back an hour later and the eggs were all gone (eaten i assume)

with in a month assuming you are doing everything the same...
if there is nothing in the tank that is to significant then let the parents do thier thing.. or you can set up a new tank and throw them in there and have them breed.. its your call but discus are fairly good parents

I would move them now to their own tank so you won't have to face this issue, next time.

The fish are at it again!!!! The same pair - they never quite let go of the cone and right now there are eggs on it and the male is giving it a going over... I sectioned off the rest of the fish (well - there are only 2 other fish who i suspect are a pair - i moved all the other discus to another tank). hopefully something happens next time as the suspense is killing me... I didn't even kno the fish could go at it so quickly...
I'd appreciate it if someone could tell me what happens next and/or what do I do... It's just for the sheer excitment of the process. thanks a lot

leave them alone and don't bother them much..keep feeding them tho...LOL
the parents will tend to the eggs..alll you pretty much do is let nature take its course.
with luck they may actually raise the fry..they don't always get it right the first time. so hang in there.
in about 3 days any fertile eggs will hatch and you wil have wigglers. they will remain like this for about 3-4 more days. then they will become freeswimmers..the freeswimmers will hang on the parents..they feed off the slime which has all the nutrition they need.
they wi do this for some time eventually learning to eat other foods.
all the reared discus I have seen hang pretty tight to the parents.
good luck
