Penguin Bio Wheel Cartage Replacement??

I know I have seen a thread or 2 where people have replaced the "Rite Size C" filter cartridge with a DIY filter using the old frame.


I cant seem to find the one I am looking for now though.

I was thinking about trying to use a sponge instead of the floss like the filter comes with, but I cant remember what brand of sponge was said to fit.


If anyone has done this with bulk floss I would also like to look in to that.

So if you guys that have done this could point me in the right direction.


Also if I converted it to sponge filtration will I be down grading the filtation capabilities? Seems there has to be a down side to sponge since they are washable and reusable. (They are washable and reusable right? :))

the only thing ive done with bulk floss is remove all the cartridges, and stuff the entire filter with poly-fil polyester stuffing... great water polisher.

Same here. I replace any pre-manufactured cartridges with floss or batting, and thin sponges of various grades.

What did you use to hold the floss to the frame? The floss doesnt come in sheets right?

I just stuff it in the box.
