This has got to be the best aquarium plant ever!

I have only had it for two months and i already love it.

I'm glad to hear that. I just ordered from ebay last week. It's supposed to be very invasive, but really, how hard can it be to scoop out the extra and throw it away.

well mine is growing slowly but it is doing great. After a few more months i think it will have covered the entire surface.

You should sell it on ebay :) I've seen it sold on there quite often in the pond plants section.

The stuff is a noxious weed- once its in a tank it takes a flame thrower to get it out. Rather deal with vampires.

I liked mine but got tired of wiping it off my arm every time I had to reach into the tank. Found it easy to get rid of though. Here in Seattle it's easy to find for $2/handful in the International District.

I get duckweed from the local lakes. It multiplies...literally!! Duckweed is VERY nutritious and I use it as turtle food.

I agree, i got some from my lfs and thought it was a good thing, the stuff started growing every where, inside the filters - inlet tubes - out let tubes ect, and it seened like it would grow overnight. it took about a month to rid the tank of it, if you decied to use it be prepared to have it forever, this is my opinion and if it works for you great....:)

I never bought it or got it for free but some how its in all my tanks. I hate it. Having a few floating around is fine but every week it seems to triple. My plants need all the light they can get.

As folks here know, I swear by duckweed. It has lots of benefits (as do other floating plants) including algae inhibition and filtration. That being said, it is a love/hate relationship at times since it is so messy and has to be thinned out constantly. But setting up barriers for it in my tanks has helped tremendously. No to mention the fish seem to enjoy the added security from above.

i got a couple of fragments with my plants and decided to let it grow....and it sure did! stuff grows quickly, especially when there isn't much surface water movement. i trimmed back my plants and scooped out as much duckweed as i could with a net and it really hasn't grown back much, that was two weeks ago. but, i'm just waiting for the plague to return...lol. i like it, but not when it takes over the entire surface.

for me it has been growing slowly.

I have oly had it a month so what do i know.

Great plant!

I wanted it for the purpose of having it absorb nutrients and for decor.

Mostly because of the nutrient absorbtion though.

tepelus, you're from Fremont? Cool, I'm originally from Fostoria, I'm in Cleveland now.

cichlidcichlid, I started out with about a spoonful that I requested the LFS person leave in the bag when I got other plants. First month was somewhat slow, then it was exponential, as you will see, they divide, and divide, and divide. I still think the benefits far outweigh the pain. I've gotten used to just washing the "hangers-on" off my arms after doing some wet elbow work. And sometimes I can get my dog to eat the extras I pull out of the water. Hmmm, protein...

Yea that stuff will hit you right in the nuts(if you a guy) I had that crap and it sucks after it takes over your tank.

Seems like it only takes a sprout or two.Maybe in the fish bag when you bought new fish.......:)

I've just started an experiment with my duckweed. I've been floating little bits of foreground plants on and in them to see if they benefit from the emergent situation. Figure they're getting access to the air nutrients more light, etc. might be good for growout. Of course they'll be stunted again when submerged, but I guess we'll see. Currently trying this with HC, and Marsilea.

Ugh, I hope he's worth it! It's an area that is fine to be from, but not so much to move to. Not that I'm saying Cleveland is much better...
