View Full Version : tulipa
anyone got info on these? im not sure if the spelling is right, but thats how it sounds hehe :) thanx guys
maybe. i know when they are little they have black stripes, and look alot like a convict, and as they get bigger they develop into a bluish color ?
Are you talking about Tilapia Buttikoferi? It is a West African cichlid that grows to 15". A very agressive fish....
i dont think so. the lfs guy said they are new world, and only get about 5 inches or so

It's Tulija, and they get to be 8" by Conkel--Cichlasoma sp. "Tulipa", which is now a Theraps, I believe.
so there is a tulipa? i will get the exact name that they have for it tommorrow

No, it is tulija. It looks like a Vieja intermedium, from any pics that I can find.

The following fish are found in the Tulija River:
Amphilophus salvini
Archocentrus octofasciatus
Chuco intermedius
Paratheraps bifasciatus
Theraps caeruleus
Thorichthys socolofi
Of these, I am leaning toward three: Chuco intermedius, Paratheraps bifasciatus, or Theraps caeruleus...these were all in the Theraps grouping of the old Cichlasoma genus, and, since C. sp. "Tulija" was part of that grouping, I'd guess that it's one of those three.
thanx man, ill ask them tommorrow what the scientific name is tommorrow
