Just an issue that i want to clear up here on the illegal side. It is not illegal to copy a program back to a cd. It is illegal to distribute that cd once it has been copied. Even Microsoft Windows/Office allow you to make a backup copy of the product you have "brought", it says that as part of the licience agreement with Microsoft products.
Now, back to issue...The only thing that stops you from taking an installed program back to a recordable media, is that it not only copies into the installation directory, it also places ( .DLL (dynamic link library) files )) into the windows and/or windows system or system32 folder. Along with them, the installer package on the origional cd runs via an installer. This installer also creates the entries in the windows registry.
Cut and shut is....it can be done, it can be done legally, but, the time involved in searching through the window system folders for the .dll files would take an age as you can simply just search for them using find or search...
The company who owns the software will always provide you with replacement media, but they will always charge you a media kit price, which is only about 12$ + P&P
Hope that helps
