Ok my 36g is finally stocked but before I added my rainbow fish I found 2 danios dead with their heads decapatated and I can't find the other danio I had 4 to start with one is still alive I can only assume that the other died too and the other fish ate him :( I found my 2 otos dead too :(. All my water parameters are perfect. I am not sure how they died. See my sig of the fish I have in my 36g. I added the rainbow fish yesterday they are supposed to get along with all the fish I have in the tank and the tetras and platies are supposed to get along with the other fish too. The cories as well. I have a shipwreck bubbler decoration I am wondering if they got trapped in it. The otos may have died because I may not have had enough algae in the tank for them to eat. I have heard they can be hard to keep. It is a mystery how they died all the other fish seem fine. Now I have one danio left and am not sure if I should replace the ones that died or not. The other danio hangs out with the white clouds. I am stumped as to what happenned they were all getting along fine before this happenned.

Australian Rainbows? These are quite passive and a nice schooling fish.

35 fish in a 36G tank is a bit over-the-top. Also, the corner design of the tank reduces it's swim length and is a taller, shallower tank vs. longer/deeper. The agression could easily be a result of the overcrowding...

The Platies and the Rainbows will both get 4" easily. Also, your rainbows love to school and swim in an open area, effectively reducing the tank size further as their requirements are a bit more than the conventional fish

Since when do platies get to 4 inches? Perhaps you are thinking of mollies? They are also a livebearer, but they can get much larger than the platy, which usually grows to around 2 inches.

they are a commonly confused fish, especially at the LFS.

sorry for your troubles :(

would this be one of the tanks that you are doing 25% water changes monthly ? I would up your water change & maintenance regime if so

agreed. 25% WEEKLY should be the absolute minimum.

Are you feeding the cories any type of algae wafer? Some peolpe are misinformed that cories are scavengers. They are not, and in fact need their own food. Mine LOVE their algae wafers.

Sorry I;m not much of a Platy fan, but the 3 my friend has in with his angels are 4" (including tail) - maybe 2.5" of body. These are swords, does that make a diff?

Regardless, 35 fish in a 36G tank is something I would have loved to have seen an image of...
