So i got a 55 gallon the other week... got a good deal on a starter tank..... but i have since been sent to work for a couple weeks....

so im planning on the set up for when i get home, and i am looking into ebaying some parts because it seems most cost efficiant....

but i have been informed that the whisper filter that comes with the tank is complete garbage.... so im looking into running a dual heater dual filter tank...

any suggestions of what i should go with..... canister filter ? biowheels? and is running 2 55 gallon filters exsessive?

good cannister filter and a backup is never a bad idea. Overfiltration likewise is not a bad thing.

I'd be interested as to whether 55 gallons is large enough to keep rays in, irrespective of filtration.

hello! Welcome to AC!

before we know what equipment would be good, we have to know what you plan to put in there...

stingyrays in a 55 gallon? I'm already nervous.

it will only be 1 or 2 maximum.... i consulted with the guy at the fish store and the ones i wanted have a top disc size of 14" but other ones i was looking into the guy said there disc size gets to only around 8"

well think about it.. the disc size might only be 8", but how long is the tail going to extend? a 55g is only 12" front to back, and you want to eliminate any crowding that would cause the fish to not be able to turn around without touching a wall.

my thoughts exactly.

and thats why im here today.... by the sounds of things ill be taking back the tank.... or maybe setting it up for guppies :)

there you go. stingrays are an awesome fish, but youre better off waiting till you can get a HUGE tank and give them the lateral swimming room they so desperately need.

i have acess to a 90 gallon for free... but ill look into bigger
