Hi all,
Sadly my Mother Kribensis has died.We found her yesterday alive but with some of her face missing, from the top of her mouth upward was missing.I don't think it was Dad as they have been getting along fine caring for the 3 week old babies, having said that there is no sign of infection in the tank!

Anyway,
Question 1 - Any sugestions as to what happened to her?

Question 2 -Now only 1 Male Krib, the father in the tank, If I introduce another female Krib, will Dad eventually pair up with her?

If there are no other fish in the tank, it had to be the male krib. I wouldn't add another female until all the fry are gone. Even then, kribs can be fickle so there is no guarantee they will pair up...depending upon tank size, adding 2 females so he can choose might work better.

Kribs, despite their size and based upon my experience, do not have that mellow dwarf cichlid temperament (not all dwarf cichlids have it either - but kribs can be really rather aggressive).

Sorry for the loss.

Eric

I agree with that. Don't add a new female when the fry are still there as he will kill her because he will think she is a threat!!!

ok tyfr. There is plenty of other fish in there, including Serpae tetra which seem to be good dithers. When the young go, I think I will take him out into a hospital tank for a bit then introduce them back into the main tank with another female and see what happens.

That sounds like a good plan. Let the female have a few days to set-up housekeeping. It's good to hear there are dithers in there - that often helps with male/female aggression.
