After seeing all the gorgeous tanks at the GWAPA meetings, I decided it was time to try something a little more planned than shove all the plants I can find in and see what grows.

So Saturday night after the GWAPA meeting I ripped out all my plants and hardscape. And remove 50 pounds of small river rock, that was making it hard to plant and started over. I spent a good chunk of Sunday laying out the hardscape and sorting through my plants. This is the result:

I am interested in feedback. Please be kind I am new to all of this, heck a year ago I did not even have fish.

I plan some more minor changes as the plants grow in. Some more downoi later this week. Some ground cover in the curved section, etc. Aslo, looking for a good plant to cover the overflow, as I think the Wisteria will grow to fast.

I took all my left overs to the LFS and got $15 for them. I think I was over planted :-)

I think it looks swell!

Looking good.

Keep the wisteria trimmed and it will bush more out then up. Its one of the best plants for hiding equipment.

I know what you mean by overplanted. I think my 75 was and I did a total rescape this weekend. With less plants my clown loaches seem a lot more active.

Keep us updated.

Jon,

Yes the basic stocking idea came from you. The Pink Kissing Gourami was a rescue, and I was unsure whether to add the Angels, but no problems so far.

The complete stocking at the moment is:

8 Silver Hatchetfish
24 Red-Eye Tetras
2 Angelfish
Pink Kissing Gourami
6 Emerald Green Cories
4 Ottos
4 Brig Snails
and a common Pleco.

The Pleco is only a rsident until he gets to big, then I should have convinced my wife to get another tank :-)

Looks great...:dance2:

great to hear somebody used my ideas :D

kissing gouramis are really great fish, but some people have had not-so-great experiences with them. if he hasnt shown any signs of aggression yet, he may be fine in the long run. he will probably outlive all of the fish in the tank, even the angels.

The gourami was a rescue, he was living in a 2.5G tank, at 5 inches and is about 3 years old, so I do not know what long term damage was done. He does not bother any of the other smaller fish. Him and the Pleco have had a couple of tussles as they fight over algae wafers. Nothing big.

I think your tank looks GREAT, i did the same, iv had mine for 2 months now, at first i put EVERYTHING in there that i could find, and just a couple days ago i ripped it down and this is now what i have

My wife is using your beginer stocking guide to stock her 10G. Actually my old 10G with Red Cherry Shrimp, Harlequin Rasbora and plants, but she is using your guide from there. 10G Stocking 4. Bought a Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami today for it.
