i am looking to create a tall mass of plants in the back corner of my 55 gallon (20 inches tall) and anacharis seems like a good shape for the purpose (tall and thin but still substantial). however anacharis prefers colder water and a lot of light, or at least thats what ive read. is there anything out there that would do better than the anacharis in an aquarium with low light (single-tube fluorescent) and tropical water?

maybe the anacharis would be fine in my tank? i would appreciate it if anyone would share their anacharis experience.

Watersprite usually grows tall. Wisteria does, too, but may need a little more light.

Not much to work with if you're stuck with only a standard 40w tube. Can try hornwort or anacharis and that's about it, some anacharis can grow fine in warmer waters.

I've had no problem growing anacharis in warmer water, even 82F. The light may be your limiting factor on keeping it alive.

The other option would be Hornwort, as phanmc mentioned. Fairly undemanding, and can get tall and bushy to fill in areas.

Maybe you could add a clip light, or similar, in the area where you are planning on growing them?
